I really like this, nice colors and textures, the foreground subject is crisp but doesn't look oversharpenned. For some reason the proportion of foreground subject to background strikes me as a bit off, needing less bg and more subject; or maybe it would look just a little bit better if the bg was closer to being in focus. Good shot, hope it does well for you. |

This is a very nice idea. I like the lighting, and good detail on the block. Fits the challenge very well, and yet is creative also. I don't like how the block is cut off though, perhaps if you showed all the hook and a tad bit more of the bottom. |

if you had cropped the area above this it would be in my opinion an outstanding photo |

VERY creative & Original. I like how you put the ship in the background, it definitly adds to the appeal. You've taken a semi-interesting object & made it a great photo, nice work, you get a 10 from me! Good luck, I hope to see more of your work when the challenge has finished! |

Interesting. Nice Background. The crop is a bit too high IMO. I'd have cropped it under the shadow of the uppermost sail. 7. |

This photo has such story potential, the colour, the contrast of material and subject, but you stopped about half way. |

Composition: 7, I want to see more of the block, and maybe some rope.
Technical: 8, A little deeper DOF would be nice, still blurred but not quite so severe.
Appeal: 7
Challenge: 10
Overall Calculated Average Score: 8 |

I like the rugged pulley and hook. The weathering shows that it still works well through time. Can't help but think that the ships behind the hook are just a picture. |

I like this idea, and scored it well. That said, if feels a little cramped. I think you might have crowded a bit too much in the lower half of the frame. Good job though. |

You had a great idea and title, but the ship's rigging in the backgrould is so out of focus, it just doesn't work. The bottom 1/3 of the image is nicely composd and exposed - perhaps that's what you should have submitted. |
