These are difficult to photograph for me, but super cool to see. They're a species of falcon that shows up during the summer around here, easily confused for small hawks from a distance. This one looks brownish because of the morning sunlight, but they're actually quite grey overall, which makes it really tricky to get one lit well enough that you can actually make out all of their detail at this focal length with this particular camera--especially around the eyes. Got lucky with this one because it was hunting from this perch one morning--seemed oblivious to me and kept returning to this spot each time it flew off. I was able to get much closer than I usually can.
