 Contre-jour revealed itself to me through failure first. Early attempts came back with washed-out flowers and blown highlights. The light was winning.
The breakthrough came when I stopped fighting exposure and committed to it instead — dropping to ISO 100, stopping down to f/16 (f/22), pushing the shutter to 1/1000. What I lost in brightness I gained in everything else: the starburst sun, the prismatic fire along each filament, the deep silhouetted stems holding the frame together.
Dandelions turned out to be the perfect contre-jour subject — the backlight transforms what most people walk past without a second glance into something that glows from within. I got low, pointed into the sun, and let the light do what it wanted.

Thanks for the notes! I totally agree. I have dozens of attempts at similar things to what you've achieved here. Most not nearly this good. Don't let your craft ever outpace the sheer joy of captures like this--because it shows in the work. :-) The world will always need one more of these, I think.
