There's an antique shop in the small town I work in that is across the street from the community's volunteer fire department. One of its specialties is antique toys like this die-cast metal fire truck, and the shop window facing the real-life fire station has several of these old-fashioned fire truck toys on display. This just happened to be the most picturesque of them.
As someone who inherited some of his dad's die-cast toys like this whenever I would play at my grandmother's house as a small child, I can't help looking at these antique toys and imagining the stories of the children who played with them back in the day, too. I wonder what sort of lives they went on to live, and I find something richly beautiful about the patina of items like this that were children's playthings long before they became collector's items.
