 Penelope :) This is playground equipment - some steps for climbing up to a platform or something if I recall correctly. The speckled area that's most in focus is actually the playground surface - shredded rubber or something (it's solid but has a nice give to it). These were the lowest stairs so I was able to look straight down on them. I get there fairly often - will try to remember to take a different angle shot and add it here.

Maybe it's because I've climbed so many playground slides with my toddler recently, but I recognized what this was immediately. It's very clever. I bet in an edgy duotone treatment, this would also look really interesting as an exercise in tonal abstraction. The focus-on-background choice is inspired and disorienting in the best way.
