This is a very simple composition, and I like that. Not much to clutter and distract.
The lighting is interesting. Soft, and somehow old-fashioned feeling to it. Because the light is directional and properly placed on the subject, leaving the background dark and mysterious, this is very effective.
The jar lid looks old, like the money had been saved there for a long time, and at last must be spent. Scraping the proverbial barrel.
Spending the last of ones resources will cause despair.
Even the wrinkled black cloth works well here.
Composition is good, exposure, and color are also good. This has the look of an old painting.
Very good job. In case you can't tell, I really like this! Also you met the challenge wonderfully.
Regards,

Grayce

Cute idea. The lighting's a little dark, though.

I love the light on the dollar bill.

looks old and worn, like it's been there awhile too! I really like the lighting. I think you did an excelent job with this. under normal circumstances, I would recomend an ironed backdrop, but I think with the challenge, it's kind of appropriate. you did an excelent job keeping bad glare and reflection off the glass. this is often difficult to do. the angle and framing/cropping are great, and the focus and clarity are also good. good luck in the challenge.

Just looks too staged to evoke the feeling of despair, for me.

Very well lit! I think I'd like to see a tighter crop to focus more on the jar and lid and less on the negative space around them.

Nice lighting.
