This is a very simple composition, and I like that. Not much to clutter and distract.
The lighting is interesting. Soft, and somehow old-fashioned feeling to it. Because the light is directional and properly placed on the subject, leaving the background dark and mysterious, this is very effective.
The jar lid looks old, like the money had been saved there for a long time, and at last must be spent. Scraping the proverbial barrel.
Spending the last of ones resources will cause despair.
Even the wrinkled black cloth works well here.
Composition is good, exposure, and color are also good. This has the look of an old painting.
Very good job. In case you can't tell, I really like this! Also you met the challenge wonderfully.
