 Wetlands are a transition between land and water, where the water table is at or near the surface for extended periods. They are dominated by the presence of water, which shapes the types of soil and the plant and animal communities that live there.

Benefits: Wetlands act as natural filters, removing sediment and absorbing many pollutants, which helps clean surface water and can improve groundwater quality.
