Another experimental shoot....

I wanted to do a portrait with light painting, and had my model all set up, studied a technique video, had all the toys. And then it just all went sideways. Toy problems. Tech problems. Trigger problems. Natalie, as always, was such a trooper. Even though we were in my garage, on the hottest day of the year.

I tried doing the light painting with just the modeling light, but that looked terrible. Then I just went for no lights except the toys. I managed to get a couple of interesting shots, but without the strobes, there were blur issues. Nobody can sit PERFECTLY still for even 4 seconds.

This was my original idea, but then decided to go for an IreneM style glass still life. She makes it look so easy!!

I used one strobe (that I finally got working), one LED light, my smoke machine, and my remote shutter release. Then it was just a frantic dance in the dark to get the right combo of smoke shapes, colors, and light spill. While I cooked like a sous vide roast.

during voting: oddly, it never occurred to me that some sort of blur was expected to convey a long exposure. My bad. This, however, is a 13 second exposure. Live and learn.

Beautiful photo but I can not see any effects of long exposure here.
