Despite the fact that lantern flies are an agricultural pest and it is recommended that they be destroyed immediately upon seeing them, I find them to be beautiful.
Aposemitism is the coloration or appearance of an animal or insect that warns the predator not to attack or eat them!

Congratulations on the yellow ribbon. The spotted lanternfly's outstretched wings reveal a spectacular color palette of bright red, electric blue, and deep black that contrasts beautifully with the veined green of the leaf. The insect's diagonal positioning on the leaf adds movement to the photo while maintaining a clean and informative structure. Congratulations again.

Haven't seen one of these yet. Don't know that I could outright kill something so beautiful ... but they ARE quite harmful I've heard. :-{

Oh, one of THOSE bugs. Did you squish it? They're pretty, but destructive. Nicely captured (photographically).

I believe this is a Lantern Bug, they are beautiful in color as in your image but a very invasive species.
