This Puritan congregation left Dorchester, England in 1630 seeking a place of religious tolerance, ending up South of Boston by a few miles. They established a colony they called Dorchester Plantation and settled in, building their first church - a sod-roofed structure - shortly thereafter. This very large building is the congregation's 5th. It was completed in 1897. Preserved withing the church, interestingly, is a burial site with four tombs: John Adams, Abigail Adams, John Quincy Adams and Louisa Catherine Adams! Apparently, it's the only place in the country where two dead presidents are buried together.
