 On our month-long whirlwind tour of Australia in Sept 2024, we spent a few days in the Outback and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. We booked a few tours for the national park over the course of several days.

We encountered a day of unexpected and torrential downpours of rain on a morning ride and hike around Uluru National Park. We were soaked to the bone the entire day, dodging puddles of reddish mud, and trying to keep ourselves and our cameras dry.

This photo was taken as I gave up my hike and walked back to the tour bus as the water kept rising on the trail. I turned around and saw one of our fellow travelers struggling their way back behind me. His wife had given him her umbrella so he could walk out to the gap in the rocks to take a closer look.

The hundreds of temporary waterfalls pouring off the rock was a sight I could never have imagined. In addition, the color of Uluru changes from the bright red from iron oxide in the rock that is typically seen to a more burgundy and silver and black look due to the wet rocks.

A stunning image, I love the water on the rocks and the pink umbrella is so perfect for additional color. I certainly hope you make a print of this image. Congratulations on the Blue.

Wow, that is an unusual sight, Uluru is otherwise only known to be bright orange under a bright blue sky

The dramatic first impression of this shot is undeniable and I've been trying to decide why it "works" so immediately. I think the person with the umbrella is key to that, and the fact that the pose of the individual obscures their face just enough to give them a sense of being "lost" in the landscape, thereby making the sheer vastness of those mountains and the power of the water flowing down them in the rain that much more obviously the subject of this perspective. Without the person, the landscape would almost register "flat," but instead it has depth and grandeur. It's truly stunning, and I imagine in full resolution as a large-format print would make a wonderful exhibition feature. Congrats on a well-earned blue!
