A member left a message during voting saying this picture was a rinse and repeat of the photo that I submitted for "Structures at Night" (he didn't say it in a negative way). I just wanted to comment on that.
The subject matter is a repeat, but the image is an evolution. When I took the picture for "Structures at Night", I noticed the minute star trails in the image. I didn't think I could pull off star trails at that location as the towns of Haverstraw and Peekskill are up the river from the location. I had assumed that there would be too much light pollution.
So I went back across the river and spent a couple of hours capturing images and was absolutely delighted with the outcome.
In the past I have been critical of people that posted images in the free study that were similar to images they recently submitted. I was actually expecting the judging on this pic come out a lot lower because of that. This experience has changed my mind though. Some pics don't come from a brilliant idea, they come from a slow and steady evolution of thought.
