A few may ask why would I choose the American Flag to represent wind knowing my score will suffer. My reply is, “You have to stand for something or you will fall anything”. Below is an attempt to explain.
1.Unmistakably you can see the results of wind in this picture. To me the wind symbolize the turbulence in America today, my motivation for the title.
2.I choose this point of view because it respect the American Flag, as I love my country no matter what kind of confusion it may be in. I wanted the angle to show me looking up to the American Flag.
3.I hope someone comments on the lights as being distracting. They are distracting and that is the main reason I took the photograph from this angle. The lights symbolize the left and right of America. With the recent election over the country leaned to the right therefore the Flag is flying over the light on the right. The light on the left seems to be gazing at an open sky as if it’s ideals were overlooked this time. The lights can be to far right or left and obscure the flag [America].
4.The pole, it is very significant because it holds us [left and right] Americans collectively which also supports the Flag we all should be proud of no matter what our views are. We must never forget that it represents our country and all the men and women that have fallen so it could fly aloft.

To all our troops deployed around the world this holiday season, “This Flags For You”.

Thanks for directing me here. You certainly have an interesting rationale for submitting your photo. I really like the point of view here, you have undoubtedly portrayed your reverence for the flag - additionally the stark contrast between the bright pole and the deep blue sky makes the image seem almost regal. As for the distracting lights, I see where you are coming from with them. If they do, in fact, serve to represent the two sides of the political equation, unfortunately I feel that the title loses something - the flag is clearly to the right, - this would indicate an almost unanimous political result, with little to no turbulence as you say. Now while the election result was relatively clear cut, there remains (From my outsiders perspective) great deal of idealogical division amongst the population...nitpicking I know, but I might as well be thorough.

As for the aesthetics of the image, personally I feel that if you managed to clone out the lights you would be left with an extremely striking, minimalist image, that better conveyed your reverence and pride. Also, I would attempt to crop out some of the space at the top and side to make the angle of the pole appear more pronounced.

Anyway, hope this has been somewhat constructive.

Cheers

Anders

Wonderful show of movement! As for composition, I think this photo would have worked infintely better if it was zooomed/cropped in tighter to the flag.

A dramatic use of shape and colour. I'd lke to have seen just a bit of blur in the flag but now I'm being fussy.

well taken, it's good to see a flag taken from a slightly different angle

I believe that this is the best of the flag images from this challenge. (I haven't seen any other flag apart from the USA so far). The title and the overbearing nature of the composition create a dramatic impact. Its not hard to imagine this on the cover of an edition of "TIME" magazine or something similar.

At least this flag shot has an interesting angle and composition! Best one I've seen so far.

This angle kind of leaves me cold. Subjective, I know but that's the way it feels.

This angle definitely had potential. The color and focus are superb, but the spot lights on the flag pole ruin the shot. I also get the political symbolism which is emotive without being offensive to anyone. bumping up to a 6.

Like the viewpoint/perspective, however the lights detract. Great color.

Now, this is a nice shot of the US flag that I would call a photograph. Well done.
