Now, if anyone starts to complain, my camera clock was off by twelve hours. fortunately, this was taken during the middle of the challenge week, so I'm safe. Also, this wasn't really yesterday's paper. but the paper for sunday. Now that the lies are exposed, this was my first entry with my new Digital Rebel, yay. Used the kit lens, 18-55 at 55mm.

Imported from the raw in Digital Photo Professional, adjusted white balance, contrast, color saturation. In PE3, USM at amount 30, radius 80, threshold 0, then again at 250, 1, 5. Resized for web, USM as above.

Thanks everyone, for your comments. In response: yes, I did "plan" this, but, in the 20-MPH winds I was shooting in, catching a shot of this flying piece of newspaper was tough :). Ergo, composition was kind-of far from my mind. I did base this on the idea from American Beauty, though it's been a while since I saw tha tmovie. I guess, from the responses, I was close enough. I am curious as to what you think would have made a better background? (those of you who commented on that). I have to say I am pretty pleased with the result. My first entry with a DLSR, my highest rating (by a lot), and a top 25 finish, Woo! Again, thanks for the comments.

A good idea but the result doesn't hold my attention sufficiently. A more interesting background might have made a bolder statement.

Really curious about this shot. Planned? If so, I wonder if you could have arranged a better setting. Very effective depiction of WIND.

Good idea! NOw, the composition could have been better, I think. Applying the rule of 3rds, the horz. line between the concrete and the grass should have been placed either at the upper or a lower 1/3 of the image. Your position could have been a bit lower, to more emphasize the airborne paper.
Great job on meeting the challenge, again. 6.
