The chair was originally my mom's when she was little - she had it reupholstered, I think in the 1950's or 60's. The handmade collar on the dress was a gift to Mom when I was born - intended to be sewn onto a dress for me. I inherited it when I had my first child, Jenny. I decided to make
this dress with a smocked top for Jenny, and used the collar on the dress. About seven years later I was into making these large, "Cabbage Patch" dolls. Made one for my daughter and this one for Mom to use in the chair which she still had in the "grand-kids' bedroom" at her house. Both the doll and the chair came to Jenny for her little girl, Tessa, when Mom passed away 30 years later. Tessa loved to sit in the chair and read when she was about two. Jenny passed away when Tessa was just three and the chair and doll came to Tessa though for now they stay in her room at our house (she visits regularly). I'd kept the dress because of the collar and smocking, so I gave it to Tessa to use as a dress for her "big girls" (she has two of them as of course I'd made her mother one at the same time that I made this one for her grandmother). Tessa is now eleven and still plays with this doll.
