I had a photo that people might have thought fit the challenge better.

A photo done a long time ago to show that very emotion - despair or a bit of depression.

But that's just it. It wasn't real, and so even though it was shot for that purpose 8 or so years ago, it just seemed trite.

But the wildlife photos that I've been taking have been starting to get to me. The shad run is going on, and there is some truly remarkable fishing going on by the great blue herons and osprey. But it can be so violent. The fish are big enough that the herons are stabbing them with their beaks. And then the fish writhe and die, and the herons wait to eat them until they stop moving around as much.

Some of the photos are showing the fish with mouth open, almost like they want to scream. It's such a rough world, for all, not just humans. Whether or not they feel despair, the process of being completely and totally out of luck/lost/at the end is universal. Humans are deluded if they think they're the only ones affected. Watch the world. We are not the only ones with problems.

I can actually feel your empathy for the fish, Wendy! It hurts me to see any animal suffer. Your wildlife photography capturing nature at its most brutal is powerful. I know the birds need to eat... but I still hate it that it has to be at the expense of another creature just doing life's brutal death. Most people think I'm crazy, but..... I look forward to Heaven where the lion will lay down with the lamb and there will be no more death!
