Started building this with my son, Brian, in August 2020 with a truckload of Ironmaster equipment.
It's gone through several growth spurts over the past 15 months or so. I've bought and sold many different pieces of equipment that I mostly got off facebook marketplace and craigslist. Got the $2500 leg press/hack squat machine for $200 and they threw in a cable machine I didn't need and I cleaned it up and sold it for $160. The leg press also eliminated the need for a calf machine I bought a few months earlier, so I sold that for $140.
I had been looking for the leg press for several weeks and while I was looking, I found that near-new sauna for $1000 (valued between $2500-$4700 on amazon at the time) on Craigslist.
The detached garage is 720 sqft and I still have plenty of garage left to fix & build. :)
I worked out with my son off & on for a little while, but kept fixing the place up. In July of this year, I decided I needed to get back in shape. I stopped drinking (didn't "quit", just stopped to see if I could) and started a diet (using Noom, which I had subscribed to a year before and never started). Noom uses psychology and mindfulness, tracking calories, weight, etc, but you really have to be motivated to make it work and much of the psychology doesn't apply to my situation because my life and work have not been typical or normal. Still, I make it work. I'm still working on it - almost halfway to my goal that I should hit in April. Down 48lbs so far since July. Not just the weights though - I have a stationary bike that fits under my standing desk in my office so I do a minimum of an hour a day.
