I've wanted to attempt a shot like this. I came across this vase and thought I'd give it a go. Hope you like it.

Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil

Composition - Meets the challenge. I think you chose a difficult subject with this vase due to the lines in it. I think that the distortion of some of the lines throws things a little out of whack. If it were a little more uniform distortion (write that one down) then I think it would've been more accepted by the voters (myself included). The concept is one I've seen many times, but I think you are the first one to do a patterned vase. Most of them I've seen are done with champagne glasses or something with minimal curves. Another flaw I see with this is the highlights on your dropcloth. I think the backdrop should've run on one level across the bottom. The flash of light on the left side could've been eliminated too.

Technical - The exposure looks excellent. Good colors and a nice sharp pic. Very nicely done.

Overall - A solid shot with a couple minor things that could be fixed to make it a real contender. I think you've gotten the concept right and just need a little refining on the setup end with the light and the drop cloth to take this to the next level. A well taken photo no doubt, but I am pretty sure that losing the light and fixing the background would've done a world of good. Nice pic and good luck in the future - Bob

It's hard not to think of the winner of the Blue challenge with this image, but hey, if you find something that works, use it!

the only thing that gets me about this is the rippled edge of the cloth next to the yellow background. It leaves me wishing for a straighter edge there. BUT! This is quality work overall.. really like the patterns, and the black against the yellow. lighting is done very well too.

I like this effect a lot, and you've made it into your own here. I like the patterns on the vase, and the point to which the water is filled up is perfect.

This photo is good, but could be INCREDIBLE if the black line beneath the yellow on the left was straight. Technically a nice shot - 8

Cool photo, got a direct 7 from me. That yellow is so pastel! The transformation from yellow to black is clean and sharp. The refraction effect is perfect! Good job, you owe me one :-)))))

Very nice shot. Same idea as TWO TONE TONIC which was in the BLUE challenge. I like that you can see the area which the vase is resting on. The black cloth used for the base is very nice and adds to the image IMO. I also really like the lines in the vase that cross over one another. Really adds and draws my eye to the center of the photo.

This would have been a 10 but that cloth at the bottom makes the photo look terrible. keep shooting.

Nice image. Very well planned and organized. I like the use of lines and patterns in the image that help to create a nice touch. Good job.

The only thing I would like to see improved is the bit of cloth on the left side that's bunched up, would be nice if it was just solid black.

Similar technique used previously, nice though!

That black cloth at the bottom detracts from an otherwise excellent photo.

nicely done, the only thing that I would suggest would have been to crop the bottom of the shot off, or taken a closer framed shot. Personally the cloth on the bottom is a little distracting, but its not a big deal just something that hit me because i'm obsessive compulsive. Otherwise this is an incredible shot.

this photo looks strangely familiar. :) the glare from the lighting against the wall is a little distracting, but not overly.

Really nice composition - I love the swapping effect. Only thing I would have done differently is balance the yellow on the top left with yellow on the bottom right - but maybe part of the appeal is the asmmetry?

Nice shot. There appears to be a strange blur on the left side of the vase, but I guess it's the thickness of the glass. I've got to try one of these shots - looks fun to shoot.
