I am impressed by the level of clarity. Do you reduce the image in a lot of steps?

There is a light part of the portrait and a dark part, but on each side the light is rather flat. There is no transition of light to shadow in either part to emphasise the shape of the face further. Some more use of reflection and a slightly different light angle could have added that.
