Thanks for all your comments:

PTLParsons: There was a lamppost to the left of the shot and another building (slightly higher) to the right. This was the best crop I could come up with.

techerring: The one thing I really wanted to do was shoot that with the afternoon sun on the building in the background with blue sky. That would have added that extra wow factor and a point or two to the shot, I'm sure. Thanks for the critique though!

Bullwinkle: If the building in the background had been a stronger yellow, I would have cropped the yellow flowers in front a bit more..

CRITIQUE CLUB

Well, I hope you don't get upset by the very SHORT Critique, but this is a fabulous shot that met the challenge perfectly. I honestly don't see anything I would remove...oh wait..next time, go drive all those cars out of the way so there's more focus on the builing (just kidding). Really this is an awesome shot that should have scored higher in my opinion.

Very nice idea of combining the two - building and flowers. Cropped the way you hvae it I would like to see a little more on the right side. There may be something worth adding. If there is nothing more on the right side I personally would have cropped it differently, squaring around a little more on the building and adding more of it on the left. But you know what's available to add and I don't. Just a thought. It is a wonderful photo as it is. Great colors and focus. Well done.

Visually this image is more complicated than first glance. The areas of midground shrubbery and white cloud are almost equal. And so are the rectangles of lawn and building/ blue sky. The vertical choice for format is unusual but does emphasize the concept of depth. There are a lot of good images tucked right inside this one. And perhaps that is why I feel some visual context confusion. There is one appealing graphic image of yellow building against blue sky. Another theme of new crocuses emerging in contrast to the hibernating shrub branches. Another theme of a close up of the flowers alone speaking Spring. Any one theme alone would produce a powerful image. It seems like there is a crowd of people all speaking at once here. There are a lot of conceptual cues happening . I do not intend this to be a negative opinion. It is technically good and contains a wealth of information. Thank you for your entry.

Subtle and very effective. I enjoy how the yellow is not IN YOUR FACE like so many other shots.

nice color

It might be more dramatic if you had got down to the same level as the flowers, keeping the building in the background.

I like the way you captured two distinct yellow objects in the one shot (three if you count the sign). Focus is quite good and composition is well suited given the two focal points of the image. Well done

Nice looking building... I think the poppies in the foreground aren't yellow/strong enough so you should have zoomed in on the building more. Then used levels to adjust the colors and maybe saturate yellows a little also. Then use Unsharp Mask (not too much) because the picture would benifit from this.

I could be wrong but was this taken in or near brighton, England.

What a beautiful image. I really like how the flowers are yellow as well and they really make the objects in the image fit together well. Good job.
