This is going to be a bitter sweet entry and midway through this challenge my HD crashed. Ive been trying to get somebody that can help me rescue lost data but this time of year over Christmas it's not the best time.

I was hoping I could get the data back but it's beginning to look like this will be a DQ. Apologies to all. Did not think that this entry would even be in the top 10

Thank you for the nice comments. Indeed, In the mountains you simply capture the light. I cannot claim any authorship or credit for this beauty. It always remains humbling

Die verlies van die foto is 'n groter ramp as die verlies van die ribbontjie! Jammer man, soos altyd pragtig verby!

This was also my second favourite. Stunningly beautiful image. Congrats on the ribbon.

My IT man is funny enough sitting in Texas and Ive been chatting with him as well. I was hoping he could assist with somebody that wont rip me off and claim they did a lot of work when they did simple tricks like what Ive seen on the net.

I bet it is one of those External Enclosures. I have had several of these die on me. If it is one of the ones I am thinking about then it is just a standard hard drive inside a plastic enclosure. You need to be careful though as some of those enclosures have hardware encryption build into the enclosure and if encryption is enabled then you can't juxst whip the drive out and put it in another caddy. I believe that often when these external drives die it is the enclosure that has fried and the drive is fine. I did have one such drive with encryption die due to an issue with the enclosure. To get around this issue I was able to source the part in the enclosure that interfaced with the drive from Ebay and I was able to recover my data. It is a lot simpler if there is no encryption.

Anyway if you have an IT man who may be able to help out then best see what he can do first. And don't worry if you get a DQ as it means I will move up to 4th place. But in my mind I will always know that it is 5th and your photo was voted higher than mine:)

Beautiful photograph! I hope you manage to get your data back again. You may be able to access your data by putting the hard drive in some sort of external caddy if it is your boot up drive and you are unable to boot up the drive. There are lots of clever people on DPC that can advise you I am sure. Data recovery services are expensive from what I have read.

Elated to see that such silver streams thread their way through verdant, unclenched mountains. You've given us this majesty that's beyond utterance. The sun-filled atmosphere is overwhelming.
Personal second favorite of the challenge, by a hair.
