fits the theme, I love the sentiment but wish this was in color

Ok, but... he's not 'reading' the books. Seems to me, the book concept would be best with someone sitting in a room with the TV shut off reading a book and looking very engaged. If this shot was in some photojournalism type challenge it would score very high with me. Hope this was helpful.

...by the way, "This photo has been validated." ?? What would someone challenge?

I see nothing tech about this except the title. Alone, the image says protest or revolt, wake up and realize something, but I cannot get to tech from here. Overall an interesting and troubling picture that would have much more impact journalistically. DOF and focus are very nice, tonality is good, crop is right on, challenge is lacking.

You focused on the books (by your title) but the mere fact that he is "hawking" the books is low tech advertisement! like the black and white presentation and the out of frame look. BOL

like to see it in color

This image looks to me like the man is protesting something. I get the feeling of banning or burning books for some reason. I think that it is his expression and that he is facing left, which could simply mean that he is looking back to the past when people read more. It is his expression that throws the image for me.

I saw this image linked from a forum...
The "book-as-a-hat" is distracting.
