Bren, what a beautiful photo -- soft yet crisp, with that beautiful light and silky smoothness so many of your shots have. I knew this would finish in the top 10. Congrats again! :)

Bren you have a nice eye and a good sense of composition, Lately you have been doing fine and this effort is just another feather on your cap. Congratulations on your 7th finish.

Thanks -- the stylized type reading "Cook Book" looks nighty familiar, but I don't think it's the same book I've seen before. I love reading old recipe books ... one of my favorite recipe beginnings starts ou "Take enough butter, but not too much, and ..."

Thanks everyone for all the comments and voting on my photo. I was very pleased with the results. I wasn't sure how well this photo would do.

I cropped out just the cook book so you could see it. I was given this by my great grandmother and to tell you the truth I have no idea how old it is. There are no dates at all inside it. As you can see it's in very brittle shape and some of the pages are missing. It's so much fun to read though. Especially all the old remedies in it.

Excellent shot, Bren! The sepia adds to the nostalgic value of this image. I can close my eyes and picture this in my mother's kitchen. Congratulations on your top 10 finish!

The sepia works well with this. Nice tones - well done.

I like everything about this picture. The framing in a square offsetting the roundness of the subject, the mild sepia toning and the modern-feel fo the crisp, sharpness in the image as a whole. The cookbook and radio (yikes I see electronics!) in no way impact the real subject of the hand mixer, in fact, they are such an after thought as to be a perfect background. Nice Job: a top contender!

This is my favorite kind of photography. You've captured a mood with this photograph excellently. It's a very charming scene that looks right out of the turn of the century. I wish only that the bowl and mixer weren't quite so centered in the frame. Perhaps zooming out a little and placing the bowl more the left would have helped. It's still a seven, since I'm a sucker for cookbook-ish photography.

great focus and perfect dof, the border seems just a little too 'heavy' though

I like the lack of color seems appropriate here.

I see a bit of haze on the pic (USM 30%, 60, 0) will remove it, but then the left egg and beater handle start to blow out. That can be fixed in other ways, but try it to see how nice the glass bowl liooks.

Ver nice composition, coloring and border.

I like the whole feel of this setting, I can see how much troulbe you have gone to not only with the bowl and whisk but the surrounding and background items too, thoughtful and appropriate for this challenge!

Hey! You stole my mixer. ;)

I like the mixer and the overall image - but the eggs in the bowl seem out of place - I feel their brightness distracts from the interesting gearing of the mixer. Also, nobody would use the mixer on uncracked eggs - it makes it too obvious that it's a set up shot.
