USS Fletcher DD-992, the last of the original Spruance Class Destroyers that served the U.S. Navy from 1980 - 2004. She was decommissioned on Oct 1, 2004 and sunk by an Australian torpedo in 2008 off the coast of Maui in a training exercise.

I served aboard from Jan 1982 - Oct 1984 in the Combat Systems Department, Weapons Electronics Division (WE) and made two 7 month WestPac deployments during that time.

This photo was taken with a Nikon Coolpix 990, during a family and veteran crew cruise in July 2004. It was the first time I, and many of my shipmates, had been back on board since the mid 1980s. I, and the guys I served with on this ship, are still very close friends. We had our most recent reunion in Las Vegas in July 2018.
