 A stupendous museum, The Scuola Grande di San Rocco is a lay confraternity founded in 1478.
The Sala dell’Albergo where I took the picture, was very important in the life of the Scuola because it was the place where its governing body met.
It is a unique site, where over 60 paintings are preserved in their original setting in a building that has hardly undergone any alteration since its construction.
While there are marvelous paintings of Titian, Giorgione and Tiepolo, it is TINTORETTO that shines from the decoration of ceilings to the huge paintings or decorated friezes.

I was lucky to have a few shots taken with great effort by my dying Fujifilm of the special atmosphere of the day I revisited this extraordinary place - lots of professional photos are to be seen on the internet.
A perfectly quiet day with just a few awed visitors and this lady (placed in one corner at the feet of Christ) looking intensely for more than half an hour before touching pencil on paper

the lady in red - stunningly quotidian but assertive amidst the concretions of decor and overwhelming big art.

So you were in Venice recently, how were the crowds? I'd like to go again but I dread hordes of tourists.

Interesting place, you had problems with light so the photo isn't sharp. Congrats on visiting such a marvelous place! :)
