|Here's the historical symbol breakdown
-The skull is a reminder of the inevitability of death.
-Flowers (fading) refers to love and beauty's decline
-Sea shells or mollusc shell is the remains of once-living animal, it means death and frailty.
-The cup is a sign of faulty life goal, finding pleasures in the temporal (and sometimes immoral) persuits.
-Coins and jewelry are designed to create beauty, while at the same time they are linked with the vanity, narcissism and the mortal sin of arrogance. They also signal of their owners’ absence.
-A sand clock is the transience of time. Here it is stopped.
-Books are the symbol of knowledge and education, ultimately wisdom.
-Pearls in the form of an infinity sign, symbolizing the eternal. Also the ouroboros, representing the cycle of life and death.
-The key stands for many things, mainly access to heaven or knowledge, or the difference between freedom and incarceration, or life and death.
-The red color of the drapery, and the golden vase, mean high social status. Also the skull has all its teeth, symbolizing wealth leading to healthly living.
