I had a few onlookers while making this shot. There were tons of people riding around in the part watching me don this deer hat and running behind this cool crooked tree. I should have put on some Camo, 'tree bark variety'. Est score 4.8, not my best submission ever, but it was fun to make!

Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil

Composition - Awesome background. The snowy trees are great. I'm not so sure about the foreground part. I think you may have had a little more success with this shot if you didn't take it so close. I think you'd have been better served it the photo was from 20 feet or so. I do think you met the challenge.

Technical - Snow exposures are always tough. I think you did fairly well with this one. Honestly I think I probably wouldn't have done much better, if at all. Dark trees + snow=something is over or under exposed. Focus might be a little sharper but not bad. I think putting this in black and white might've helped a little. This is not an easy photo to take and with the substantial contrast, hard to even process into a good photo.

Overall - I think you did well with your estimate. It wasn't posted to win any awards and I'm glad you realize that. The composition is cute, but not anything to write home about. The photography isn't bad, but for the conditions, you did pretty well. Sorry this can't be more helpful for you. All things considered on this end, I'm doing ok for 5:00am by writing this! Good luck in the upcoming challenges - Inspzil

Is the deer Waldo? This is a really weird photo - to me. It appears to be a person, two legs at the bottome of the photo, holding a tree and a deer head up in front of a forest in the snow. Maybe if there were more to the photo I could see more or see it differently. Nice sharp photo though.

It's pretty obvious where the person is...

At first I had to look long at this photo to determine what everything is, but now I got it. That's a branch with Waldo hiding behind it with a deer mask on right or at least holding a deer mask? Good idea, and you met the challenge. The part which strikes me about this photo is that the snow and the falling snow flakes actually make me feel cold!!! Good job!

Oooh, I see. The fake deer head seems to be slightly out of focus, hard to see. The legs below the branch are the dead give away. (Suggestion - crop off the legs, the branch could have been the trunk of the tree) 7 Swash

Meets challenge but looks a bit too staged.

Nice job of keeping your eye away from "waldo's" legs. What a great catch with that deer ;-) Very cute photo, and nicely done with the contrasts as well as the composition. I really like it! Also great use of the challenge. -10-
