Ah, the Sina-Male' Bridge. Never been on it but seen videos - it's breathtaking. I think the man is saying "I used to swim over there".

I wasn't thinking generations, but I did have much the same worlds apart reaction as Mariuca. For me it was the contrast between the torn up foreground and that natty gate (don't really know what to call it) that first struck - that and his obviously contemplative pose.
