Every picture is better for the inclusion of a crow or raven. Even S. Dali apparently regretted in his later years not having inserted more Corvidae into his work. This one may not be an actual crow of course, but the gesture is appreciated nonetheless.

I feel like I know that bird so well, now that I've picked him out of the leaves. I'll call him Inky.

For me who adores trees, branches, leaves and everything in between, this image is less interesting because as you said, it reminds too much of a different technique away form a true photograph. I struggle also with the endless ways that we can play with an image and, more than you, I go sometimes overboard. Nevertheless, I would not be in favor of going back to the dark room!

I was very happy to spot the bird. Looked and looked for this photo yesterday on my walk . . . best I could do was a light post.
