Seeing Ecce_Signum's lovely picture of his dog this morning sent me digging through my miscellaneous photo toys this morning, and I found my old pinhole "lens" that I haven't used for years. I don't have a dog to practice on, but I do have some weird cactus in my backyard, one of which had this fruit on it. (I have no idea if it's edible or not.) In real life the fruit is kind of an ugly reddish purple. I think it looks a lot better in b&w.

I have no idea where I bought the pinhole or what the aperture is.

Yes, this is indeed a 'perfect' square composition, mathematically, aesthetically (they might be the same thing in this case). Look at it. Look again. Again. Longer. Linger. It gets stronger rather than weaker with repeated consideration. It's like Keats' Grecian Urn; consider just the first two and the last two of Keats' lines:

Thou still unravish'd bride of quietness,
Thou foster-child of silence and slow time
...

Beauty is truth, truth beauty, ΓΆ€“ that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

I say it's just a bit like Keats, in order to not embarrass you. But it is what he was on about: the timeless durability of classical beauty. And you too.

Thank you.

Edit for typo. Not mine, it was Keats. Wonder why nobody noticed it before this?

many years ago, before I found DPC, I hated blur. now I see how new realities come from it. the circle in a corner is a good way to compose a square.

it does look like the moon! I never tire a pinhole but this and all the other pinhole pictures in this side challenge make me want to try myself

I dont care what it is, I think it wonderful, so much, yet so little to look at :) Oh, and isn't it a pleasure to use the pinhole from time to time?

This does not look like a cactus fruit. No complaint, just an observation.

Lovely image, spectral and insinuating.

Those are Red Cactus Pears and they are definitely edible, even delicious :-)

A mysterious glimpse into the private world of cactus. Nice effect.
