Wife held up backdrop. Used the manual functions, set aperature and then played with the shutter speed until my EV level was 0.

Trying to release from this pic

Greetings again from the Critique Club

an after thought I just noticed this remark in your comments
"set aperature and then played with the shutter speed until my EV level was 0." I fee that your ev would have been better at 0.7
did you try this as a landscape crop?

Greetings from the Critique Club
This is a nice try at a still life arrangement, but would have benefited by having more light on the arrangement an a little less on the background.
The background distracts the eye from the main subject
Your camera work is good, the main problem with this image is the lighting.

Some suggestions to try
Play around with the lighting, more on your arrangement less on the background.
With out re shooting the image try cropping in closer to the top of the bottle and playing around with the brightnes and contrast settings.

Looks a little tilted, and the brightness of the background is a litlle distracting; a darker or less reflective fabric might work better.

If you're going to photo a wine bottle, make sure the print is legible. Something strange going on with the background

This pic looks a bit oversharpened to me! This makes it unatural looking! jgillard6

I hate it personally its to much and not enough in one picture the brown makes it look dull and crappy .... but good try

Too much gold at the top - crop it down a bit and the photo would be better IMO. Also, there is a big reflection on the bottle - perhaps a different lighting setup would diffuse that.

I like the background you used for the picture. I think by putting some more light on the bottle would have brought more intrest to the picture. Nice Work

Would have preferred this a bit lighter.

I really like the organization of this photo. The colors are very nice and bright as well. They display a nice image against the background color. Good job.

One issue with this photo is that there is just too much empty space in the top third and the background material is just not that interesting to look at. You could have cut a lot of that out by a tighter shot/crop. But if you wanted to maintain this shot, a tall vase with flowers or the like would have added a lot to fill up the space. Another issus is the the lighting, which appears to be overhead, should instead be directed more at an angle with front or side lighting. The pic on the whole appears underexposed, and this could easily be fixed with better lighting. Also, the angle you chose to take the picture does not reveal a lot of your subject...A higher angle showing more of the fruit I feel would be much better. I hope you haven't found this to be too critical, as I really just want to help. If you do feel so, I apologize now.

My eye wanted to go to the gold background, not the subject.

you need a light source lighting the direct front to compensate the light from the top... the wine bottle and basket are very dark.

Was going to say you needed to smooth out the background, but the more I look at it the better I like it as it is. Need more light on the bottle especially, then lighten the whole photo a little. The bowl appears to be a little different and should be able to be seen better. Has great potential.

Looks like this shot could use a bit of front lighting. I would also prefer a more plane background; this one looks a bit too busy.

nice texture on the background, but the "Still Life" itself is too dark...

This really should be a picture of a dude in a photo studio drunk with half the lights on, empty bottles of wine everywhere, and pieces of half-eaten fruit strewn around.
