This is what came out of the camera. I used a graduated ND filter to balance the sky and the ground. Otherwise this is pretty much how it looked that day. The dark altocu clouds are a little deceiving, as much of the sky behind me was bright and blue.

I just want to add a note to my previous post on this shot.

Yes, it's not a digital filter (and yes, I s'pose I'll have to sart eating!) but all I would say is that the filter was not used to its best potential due to the 'falseness' of the end result. I would have chosen a less heavy-handed method of accentuation so that one remains focused on the scene and not an artificial enhancement.

: )

oh wow, Matt!! This is rather ethereal in itself! What is the smoke that I see on the ground?

I'm afraid that I like *this* photograph about 10 times better than the one submitted.

I'm probably in an extremely small minority, however.

I do not know this photographer personally but I live within ten miles of where this shot was taken and that was the way the sky was for a couple of evenings. I believe the photographer when he says this is an unedited photo. He is on top of a small mountain putting him near these low lying clouds. Start eatting Imagineer. :)

Unedited - are you sure?

I can clearly see a graduated mask where it'appears' to be burned. If not then I eat my words, hat, head and everything, because the lighting cast on the ground in this scene looks impossible given the low, ominous gloom of the sky.
