Tried to come up with something mechanical, and really didn't have much. I do love this clock -- it was my dad's. As was the anniversary clock, actually.

After last year's work with lighting, I still don't really understand it.

How do you increase the contrast to get it right from the camera? This was rather flat, but when I simply increased the contrast in RAW, it was quite close to what I was looking for. But flat out of the camera. Is it because I'm working in a little space instead of a big studio? Do I simply move the lights back? But that would spread the light out more.

Anyway. Three lights. One back and to the left lighting his face. One behind and high for his "hair light". (he said it's more of a head light since he doesn't have the hair) and one snooted up front pointing in the clock.

Thanks for the comments!

And thanks to my incredibly kind husband. I thought of just doing the workings of the clock, but it really seems like the photo needed a person. My mom said that you should put a person in each photo. I thought that was ridiculous. But it really does seem like people give it more soul... I hate it each time I realize that my mom was right. I'm hoping that my kids are realizing that I'm right at least sometimes!

Nice to see you back in the game Wendy, er ummmm Jeff, well you know what I mean :) I've missed you! Funny, I had the same idea of using a clock but never got around to entering anything. Good luck!
