 The velvet antlered overview. 07/07/16 3:53pm. 12000' on the Alpine Visitor Center trail in the tundra. Canon EOS 5Dmkiii, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, 1/320s@f/16, ISO 400, lens focal length 96mm. The elk herd is generally in the tundra to escape the biting black flies at lower elevations. The bulls segregate themselves into a bachelors' group. The females, calves, yearlings and spikes graze together in a separate area, but also in the tundra.
