I know chickens are not a popular subject here, but I like them - a lot - and my little flock is helping to reduce the grasshopper plague of biblical proportions that we are currently experiencing. Three years ago my husband had a heart attack and quadruple by-pass and the cardiologist said that he was at very high risk of repeating the scenario if he did not make some major lifestyle changes. One of those changes involved following an uber vegan eating plan. Basically, if it has a face or a mother, he can't eat it. Plus, no added oils, no nuts, no coconuts, no avocadoes. so the garden is important to us. The grasshoppers wiped out a 25 foot row of lettuce and mixed greens over night. The chickens (obviously free-range) are helping. But they are a little overwhelmed.
I.m not much help. My rotator cuff tear turned into a major unexpected surgery in early June and I am one-armed for a while longer. I am not allowed to move my arm at all. The rotator cuff had retracted so far, they were barely able to effect the repair. If this doesn.y work (it's the third time in two years) the next step is a complete replacement.
