A very, very brave and very touching essay. I don't know that I could have done it. It's starts out very harsh but ends with more humanity, aided in the fact it starts in black and white then moves into the realm of faded color. From the photographs, I sense your mother was a very elegant woman. You've given her a sense of truth and dignity.
