Challenge: October Free Study (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Minolta DiMAGE F200
Location: outside my house in Riverside, RI
Date: Oct 16, 2004
Aperture: 3.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/45
Galleries: Fashion, Portraiture
Date Uploaded: Oct 31, 2004

Portrait of my three kids and their friend on their way to see The Cramps in Boston (which coincided with the first game of the now historical Red Sox/Yankees match.
I'm aware this is a risky choice for a Free Study challenge but I really felt strongly about submitting it. I'm probably biased since they're my kids but something about this photo speaks very loudly to me about the yearning and searching of youth. The title is a lyric from the song Midnight Radio from Hedwig and the Angry Inch which is a beautiful song that sort of epitomizes my feelings about this shot. Another incidental, my oldest daughter (in the leopard print) had her 17th birthday the day before.

Flash was used to avoid camera shake. I used an EV was set to -1.3. I dodged some highlights and cropped a tiny bit.

Not sure what effect you were going for here?

If you made the background lighter, I think the figures would be better defined - nice shot, though - a possible CD cover

Sorry, but the people look a little blur. The red one look out of focus.

Hmmmm... not realy my taste. It looks slightly out of focus and because of the way the girl and boy on the right side are looking I loose interest. If they are not interested, why should I be...
Like the orange hair! Should have seen mine when I had that age. Great times they where, great times.

If the photo was actually telling some kind of a story about these guys, show them doing something other than posing (the left 2) and being bored (the right 2), it may have been a good picture. As it is, it is probably ok for the family album... As far as technical part, the frame seems a little too tight for the characters, and i definitely don't like the feet cut off at the bottom. On the bright side, these gus are all characters, no doubt. Especially like the girl with orange hair and the guy next to her. Sorry... 5.

Focus is a bit soft and cropping the left side would help. 5.
