We took a snare drum and put some water on it, then beat it a few times with a fast shutter speed. Unfortunately the shots with a lot more water in them had the sticks out of focus, so I entered this one (one of our first attempts) instead. Thanks to Scott for the drumming.
Taken with 50mm 1.8D lens.

the horizontal positioning of the drumstick (which i do believe is proper for drumming) makes this image look sort of static, like the stick is at rest and not in motion. a slight angle could have brough more movement in. i also would think that cropping out some more of the drum itself would have drawn more attention to ste stick and splash. as it is, your eye just kind of drifts toward the white. the focus is really good, and i like that you chose a natural background (instead of a black sheet, for instance). makes me think this drummer's marching on the football field. :) oh, and the point of view is nice, here, too.
In my opinion, this is too... I don't know, stationary? It needs some dynamic action, such as perhaps making the stick slightly diagonal and maybe a slower shutter speed to give the stick some action blur (or keep the same shutter speed and flick the stick really, really fast). Nice shot, though! Very good DOF and the salt (or whatever the jumping specks are) are a very nice touch!
