The report below makes the point that I was alluding to with my image and its title. These birds have avoided death this winter at least in part because we keep the feeders stocked.

If you are feeding birds. it's nothing to take lightly. As you enjoy the activity and vibrant colors birds provide, then you are obligated to keep feeding steadily. Now that you have started you are committed and must not stop until the middle of April.


For those who are interested, the feeders (from L to R) contain safflower seed, peanuts, and Nyjer (which I still tend to call thistle). Today, Feb 26th, there were 15 birds at the three feeders with a further dozen or so waiting to take their place.

Thanks. The grain came from degradation of the quality of the image as as result of shooting through double paned windows plus a window screen, plus a whole lot more added in processing.
