Our eyes perceive this image in a pinwheel movement trying to find a resting place to give us an answer but there is not such thing and we are forever searching. There are all kinds of elements here. There is graciousness, power, tiredness, acceptance, fear, violence and in the end some hope. It’s an imperfect photograph of an imperfect world. It belongs to a series of snapshots on a theme that only this photographer knows about. The awakening of ideas.

Somehow, I cropped my own remarks on the jury thread. What I said was that this photo is inside out. The elements on the edges would normally lead into the center, but instead they lead out of frame. This gives us a new idea of what the "center" is.

Please accept a Most Under Appreciated IMHO (aka MUAIMHOs) AWARD as a small consolation for your wonderful efforts in the Art Of 2014 challenge.

Love the composition. Love the hands.

A moment in time, a juxtaposition of the older and the younger – touching, reaching, being ready for interaction, an offer of assistance, a request for help, elements of interactive anticipation through the triangulation of hands. I think the hands speak volumes towards the mood and intentions of the subjects, a story so loudly unspoken in its’ familial affirmation and gestures of emotional sensitivity.

Suggestive and dark. Lots lurking in the shadows. The title offers no help, which I like. An eight for you.

Another excellent example of the art of balance, or contrast. This is a beautiful image that give so much to the viewer willing to stop and contemplate the juxtapositions presented. Great entry.

one thumb = top ten & hang on my wall anytime.
A lovely, improbable thing. From a photography point of view, the tones are quite glorious, absolutely as deep and filled with character as anything done on medium format film; and the depth of field control is superb too. From an art point of view, it's even better, because it invites (demands, really) that the viewer supply a suitable narrative. A picture that inspires a story, rather than a picture that insists on telling a story. So much better for that. Thank you.
