First challenge back in nearly two years. Was hoping to see the site evolve a little more. I was just taking a peak and saw this challenge and looked at odriew's work and thought I would contribute. This won't be a personal best and I doubt that if I haven't found the formula to ribbon in 12 years, why start now? Either way, it's nice to see the site alive, I couldn't help but contribute $25. I'll try and submit more.

If the photographer that we're supposed to emulate is giving me a 7 than isn't that a win in itself?

The bold shapes vs. the fluffy clouds are a good contrast, but my favorite part of the photo is the left half. I don't know if you had the time to wait until some of the 'sentries' flew over and landed on that more barren tree, but if you had done and somehow composed to have the clouds behind that tree I think it would have improved this.

The other tree just has too much going on with the chopped-off wide branches and the moss and vines hanging from it, and also the leaves on the lower half. The one on the left is beautifully simple.

Beautifully imagined, it's as if they're about to engage in an epic battle. I love the striking contrast between the bareness of the left side and the clutter and chaos in the right. I'm usually a big fan of glow but there's too much in this pic as manifested in the haloing in the trees and leaves. 7
