Before i submitted this i looked at the entry and said to myself that this will take the brown, and thought about being okay with the score being hammered. I am fine with this image ending up at the bottom of the pile because i decided i wanted to enter this in the hopes of some feedback via comments. so far i've had one comment that is accurate in stating the color does not suit the general depiction of "hell"; but i see no reason to believe that there is only one way it can look; this color reminded me of a tainted/sickly looking golden glow, which, if heaven is the golden kingdom, and hell is a perversion of that, why can't it be a putrid yellow with grey/black? It exists outside of the "promised land" of heaven, but who is entirely to say that the plane of existence in which heaven and hell "exist" does not share some common aspects, the same way that all locations within our solar system are illuminated by the same central light source - the sun.

on a purely factual matter, I do not have any finite conceptions of what awaits us after we die, nor as to how they may actually look. The images of fire and brimstone were originally transcribed by man, but all that is agreed to by those who believe in the existence of hell, is that it is a perversion of heaven where pain and suffering of those who inhabit the place are the only constant; being forced to exist in a wasteland as envisioned in my image would be an eternity of pain and suffering in- and of-itself, knowing that a golden paradise is so close, yet entirely out of reach.

ah well, this image will likely exist in the far corner of the brown ribbon winning entries in dpc, hopefully the comments received will exceed the paltry score it is receiving (and rightly deserves, as it is an impressionistic art piece, not a pretty picture)

Thank you for the comments. I really enjoyed processing on this one, it was a lot of fun to take something seemingly normal and make it something so far removed from the original.
And it is quite amusing that Don and I had basically two sides of the same coin for entries.

I am happy that there are some others out there who enjoyed this image as well, thank you :)

I made sand look like sky and you made sky look like sand. I like it.

Maybe red would have worked better than light yellow for this concept?
