 Out for Sunday morning group ride. At our stopping point, this mantis was crawling around on Abe's handlebars, so I chased him (her?)with the camera until he wandered off.

There were a couple of shots right after this where it was a couple of inches further up and the bug's shape followed the curve of the handlebars in a pleasing way. But there were blown highlights and I couldn't get what I wanted out of it.

I'm happy with how this turned out, but knowing the fickle tastes of the DPC collective, I'm figuring a mid 5 if the wind is at my back. Background may be a little too busy for the popular taste.

Post challenge notes:
Well, I think my pre-challenge assessment nailed the collective opinion. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have desaturated some of that reddish tone in the center of the background.

As expected I got a comment on the busy background. I was quite pleased to get comment with conflicting opinions on the actual manner in which I framed the subject.

Nice capture, great focus, but isn't really saying "frame" to me.

Really like the insect,and the contrast of the purple 'frame' highlights him well. I struggled, though, with the background; whilst the bike is part of the story (which I really like) I felt that it detracted from the insect itself.
