Last minute entry - I got the gas mask at the military surplus store nearby for a really cheap price - it is new and functional. For a claustrophobic person like me, there is something scary about wearing a gas mask and having a limited supply of breathable air. My initial idea was a prepper-gone-bad, but it ended up like this.

Composite of three shots:
1. Shot of myself in the walk-in closet using a flashlight and some window light. This shot is inspired by, believe it or not, a horse shot that I saw long time ago. It is similar to ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', '/') + 1) . ' sfmorris'

I like how the light falls off as it reaches the edges of the subject.
2. The texture which is ceiling tile - glad that I don't have to paint myself dirty.
3. Shot of black cloth (background/foreground)

Cloned out background so it is completely black.
Masked using the black cloth shot as foreground. Revealed background using a soft brush.
Blended in texture shot.
Dodge and burn.

Voted earlier coming back to comment.

The human figure emerging from a plague of darkness is visibly marked by the virus even as he clings to the hope of survival by donning a gas mask. Yes, just the thought of something akin to the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic is both scary and terrifying. Well done presentation of this scary thought - will have to find something happy to do to push down the scary thought of this.
