Critique Club Review
Composition: Excellent. One of the strongest features of the picture. The strong shape and placement of the sign is balanced by the unique sunlit, snow covered tree branches. Good angle of view on the sign.
Technical: Focus is good and the deep DOF works well here. I don't think you can control aperture on that camera but if you can, I'd be curious what a shallow DOF would look like? I think that the pic would actually be a tad stronger if you had used some fill flash on the sign. It still looks good even backlit and obviously the snow is providing a lot of fill reflection but these signs are designed to flouresce in a strong light and it tends to make them really pop. As it is, the tree branches are almost primary and the sign is almost secondary. Also, when I look closely at the sign, it seems as if the focus on the letters is actually a tiny bit soft, yet the tree is really sharp, as if your AF hit the tree and missed the sign.
Post-Processing: Looks good. The only thing that stands out is the branches look like they might be a tad oversharpened.
All in all a great picture that might benefit from a few small tweaks! Good job! :) |

| That is one frozen tree. I do not think the tree will escape its deep freeze anytime soon. This picture could of benefited from a noise removal program such as neatimage. See the light blue spots in the upper left corner. jgillard7 |

| This is a favorite! The sign is very clear, great color and the tree as part of the background is fantastic! Cute title, too. While I do prefer sign shots that include the "action" of the sign (in this case, a type of dead end road), but this is so very nice, I just don't care that's not included. 10 Swash |

| the sign needs some more light. and i don't understand what if anything you are trying to portray here. but the contrast is great and the sharpness is good also |

| Great image. Composition/Exposure both very good. The sign is backlit, but in this case it works to your advantage. Very nice pic. 8 |

| Beautiful! One of my top picks this week. Even my 4-year-old daughter saw me looking at it and she said it was a "very pretty picture." The snow on the trees provides a wonderful contrast, and I like the slight reflection in the sign. |

| I love the detail in the tree it looks stunning - I hope you took a photo of it on it's own as well. Composition of the sign and tree is quite good. My only negative is that the lighting of the sign could have been slightly better - although I admit that people might think you strange lighting a street sign to remove darkness and reflections. Good work. |
