Henry, I'd never tire of looking at your photographs, although you're right in your hint that there may be a few too many here (only because they're not really a linear narrative, so some are quite similar to others). Among the essay are some really wonderful individual images (such as the two white floppy hats, and the lady with the mannequin), but the essay could profitably be pruned down by about a quarter, I reckon. Your graphic presentation choices are perfect: the B&W , the moderately high contrast (or clipped blacks), the film grain effect and the border all work for me. I know that the grain and the border are only simulating something from the analogue world, but so what? A digital photograph is itself just a simulation of an analogue alchemy. I enjoyed looking at this essay, and was delighted to find so many delightful reasons to pause the auto play as I did so. Thank you. |
