I've removed this essay and plan on reworking it soon.

DPC doesn't really support the concept of a photo essay. I posted this image so my story would be linked to my DPC profile. Feel free to leave comments here or on my webpage.

Thanks for the feedback on my essay. The process of putting a narrative together has been a learning experience. I feel it's a pretty accurate account of what I've observed while walking through the markets and around town. Based on the comments I've received so far it appears my story runs a little long. Once the side challenge ends I'll probably go back and make some changes. I have a pool of about 50 images that I edited for this narrative. Maybe I'll split it into two separate essays or just trim this one.

I went ahead and trimmed my essay to 28 images.

Excellent reportage Henry!
It is rarely that we get an insider's view of a place so far from ours.
In regards to the number of pics, you might want to re-arrange them somehow to create a little breathing space; lets say 24 hours of the day or four parts of 5 pics - morning, lunch, afternoon, night.
Great processing.

I enjoy how the opening image leads into the rest - then you come back to it and it all fits. I especially like the few where you caught laughter - it seems rare here. Thank you for showing me this place.

I don't think this needs to be 28 images. There are enough astounding images to make a stunning photo essay, you don't need all 28.

Henry, I'd never tire of looking at your photographs, although you're right in your hint that there may be a few too many here (only because they're not really a linear narrative, so some are quite similar to others). Among the essay are some really wonderful individual images (such as the two white floppy hats, and the lady with the mannequin), but the essay could profitably be pruned down by about a quarter, I reckon. Your graphic presentation choices are perfect: the B&W , the moderately high contrast (or clipped blacks), the film grain effect and the border all work for me. I know that the grain and the border are only simulating something from the analogue world, but so what? A digital photograph is itself just a simulation of an analogue alchemy. I enjoyed looking at this essay, and was delighted to find so many delightful reasons to pause the auto play as I did so. Thank you.
