Taken near the sea, where there are loads of Kites. Got some closer shots, which I think are better, but this fits the landscpae challenge better, I hope!

CRITIQUE CLUB!

Congratulations on taking a great shot overall.

Here's what I like:
The focus and clarity are both excellent. The subject is nicely composed and very well shot.

Here's what I think could be better:
Too much foreground -- the bird is too close to the top of the screen. The horizon in the background also seems to cut him in half. Shooting from a lower angle to put the hawk against a background of the sky would make him stand out even more.

Because this is a "landscape" challenge, something just makes me think that this would be better in "landscape" mode -- meaning, keep the bird where he is in the frame, but give us a long view in the direction he is looking. I'm really frustrated because I found a great article about this on the web somewhere but am having trouble finding it now. DANG! If I find the link, I'll post it later. Anyway, you get the point...what's the bird seeing? Why is he so still? Or is he just staring off into space? We should see that in any case, but especially to help this photo fit into the challenge more.

Last but not least, the golden tint to the photo is overwhelming. If you have a software application that will allow you to adjust the color balance (or hue and saturation), play around with those to see what a difference it can make. If you don't have access to Photoshop or something like it, try THE GIMP, which is a free alternative and is supposed to be pretty good.

Hope this helps....

Congrats on a good score and a great capture.

Would have liked to see more sky.. something the hawk would be looking across.

Bird looks unreal. Good job of capturing area climate though. This made me thirsty.

Great colors. I like the bird. Adds a little something extra to this pic. Interesting pic in terms of the colors and elevations of layers and stuff. - Inspzil

Super shot of a tough subject. I'm not sure how much it meets the challenge but if I got this close to the hawk or eagle, I woulld have submitted it too!

THIRDS. I believe this would have been a better photograph with more sky above the hawk. Now, if that was not possible, perhaps more cropping at bottom. Good capture of this large bird.

The hawk certainly adds interest and I like the contast of the rocks to the weedy areas.

The bird is very dramatic as the focal point here with fabulous colors against the background! The lower section of the shot doesn`t do much for it, although ties in the colors well. Perhaps a crop from just the bottom of the post up would be interesting to help eliminiate the shadow.

What a beautiful creature. I would like to see this taken from a lower angle so that the bird isn't cut in half by the horizon. Could also stand to see more of the sky so that he isn't so close to the top of the frame.

Super photo, the composition is wonderful, maybe not so much on the bottom but the ground is so interesting it's a toss up. The bird isn't in focus and I think with him being the main subject, he should be. You had great luck getting this shot...congratulations!

Cropped it too much. The bird should be a little lower and to the left I think.

Personally I think this image is cropped to tightly on top, and too loosely on the bottom. Perhaps a wider shot to indicate what the eagle could see would work well. It's still a good photo though.
