I like Neat, I really do. In fact I thought this was a cool image. But I must say that I have a hard time always saying how I feel because of the "political" side of the community (I need to get better at this). I don't want people to think I'm personally attacking them. The same in reverse. I think sometimes I don't get the harsh details of why my photo wasn't up to par because people don't want to demotivate or come across as critical. The problem is that we get flooded with compliments ,(& God knows I love those), but are we really learning or hearing why we received that 5.0 instead of a 7.0? Having said that there are folks who will give you all the details, for better or for worse, & here's the thing. By and large they do that in a way that is not hurtful. If we come across, (like most folks here), as supportive and constructive then even the most difficult comments to receive can be embraced as helpful.
I think, (in fact I know), that we're many times spared comments that could possibly help us grow as photographers.
