COMPOSITION
I think you have done an effective job of filling the frame nicely with the tree. Also, the placement of the sun is good because it allows the eyes to see both the tree and bright spot at one time. I agree with some of the others that this may not have been the best choice for a "landscape" shot, as it doesn't show any land, and only one tree, but I tried to keep a fairly broad interpretation in mind.

TECHNIQUE
You have done a very good job of getting the detail of the tree to show. I think many times on a digi cam, trees end up being very soft and fuzzy around the edges (yours is a little, but not bad). The blue sky is awesome -- were you using a polarizer? The complete silhouette of the tree is nice as well because it makes the shot very simple and pleasing to look at. As others have mentioned, I think cropping some at the bottom would eliminate the power line, and that would be good because the lines look so out of place. Also, since the tree "spills" out of the frame on the right, a closer crop on the left might be good too. Finally, there is some noise/grain in the sky. I have found that the free download of "neatimage" works wonders on this. It may, however, soften parts of your tree.

OVERALL EFFECT
The simplicity of this shot is perhaps its strongest feature. The simple composition and contrasting colors are pleasant to look at. Not including more of the surrounding countryside may have hurt the score some because some people specifically wanted land in the landscape.

Nice work and I look forward to seeing more of yours.

I like this shot for what it is, but I don't see much land. I love the blue sky and the way the sun is a dull white spot in the background. The shape of the tree is very good, although I would like it better if the branch on the right were not cut off at the edge of the frame. I also would have liked it if the branch at the bottom was showed attaching to the trunk. I understand you can't get rid of the power lines due to spot editing rules, so they are ok. A fun shot, but I give it a 6 for this challenge because it says "picture of a sillohuetted tree" instead of "landscape"!

Stunning tree silhouette, as nice as many in the "Without the Hand of Man" members challenge from a few weeks back. It's not quite a landscape photo though.

Nice shot - good blues. The sun relative to the tree is great. I would have cropped the powerlines, and tried to get all of the tree branch into the shot on the right.

Nice photo. Doesn't really have anything to do with the challenge though. Focus is OK. Lighting is interesting. Too bad the wires are in the way. 6 waltoml.

I think this is an absolutely beautiful picture, I love the outline of the tree in the sky.. what I don't like is that there is no background of what is behind the tree, but I can imagine it's a house, judging from the telephone wires(?) behind it. I still think this is a beautiful picture though. -Annida

I like this photograph a lot. Some nits - crop a bit less on right side and a bit more at bottom to eliminate wires.

Oooh. I really like this one. Super job!

I wouldn't consider this to be a landscape - there's no land in this photo. It is a nice capture though - you've done well with the sun behind the tree in terms of exposure. I'd clone out the wires at the bottom when the challenge voting is done.

Very nice. Good luck in the challange.

Nice job, I've used this technique and it's not as easy as it looks. I noticed you only used 87kb of the 150kb allowed. The additional may have removed some of the graininess of the background. I wish we didn't see the wires at the bottom as well. Nice blue color in the sky.

Woulda liked to have seen the whole tree shot as a portrait, still a great silhouette though and well shot!

I really like how you have combined the sun and tree so that they don't "fight" for the eye's attention. Cropping the very bottom would have gotten rid of teh power lines.

Powerlines? hehe I would have liked to see the whole tree, the right side seems cropped off.
