Challenge: Free Study 2013-11 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D800
Lens: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.8G Wide-Angle Prime Lens
Date: Nov 28, 2013
Aperture: f/8 and f/2
ISO: 200 and 25600
Shutter: 2.45 hours and 8s
Date Uploaded: Nov 30, 2013

Made out of two different exposurs of the same scene. One with high iso, "fast" shutter and wide aperture to get the intensity of the sky, and the other one low iso, loooong shutter and stopped down to a suitable "landscape f/stop".

Opened up both images, put them over each other, masked out the lake and trees from the star exposure. merged the two and voila. The rest is just color correction and alot of color noise cloning. I'm 99 % sure that this is within the rules; it's basically just another form of HDR where the f stop and iso also changes.

Though the stars in this photo are the understood stars of the show in a photo like this, I really like the soft greys of the water contrasted with the clear silhouettes of rocks and trees.

Too bad the starts are not in focus, that could really make this pop.

FYI, in advanced editing, you could have taken on photo with the foreground in focus, one photo with the stars in focus, and combined them in post processing to make sure all was in focus.
